Will Google AI Max Settings Carry Into Microsoft Ads?
Yes—Microsoft says Google AI Max settings can carry into Microsoft Advertising through Google Import, including scheduled imports. That does not mean every Google Ads setting or every AI Max detail transfers identically. If you manage both accounts, check whether the import can add settings that have not been imported before and whether it can update existing Microsoft AI Max settings before the next run.
Microsoft announced this behavior on August 27, 2026. Its announcement says corresponding Microsoft campaigns can continue to inherit settings from Google campaigns with AI Max enabled during scheduled imports. It does not provide a field-by-field mapping. See Microsoft Advertising’s announcement about AI Max.
What the two AI Max import options control
Microsoft’s v13 Campaign Management reference documents two separate options in the GoogleImportOption data object:
- NewAIMaxSettings controls importing AI Max settings that have not previously been imported. Microsoft documents it as enabled by default, or effectively true.
- UpdateAIMaxSettings controls importing updates to AI Max settings. Microsoft also documents this as enabled by default, or effectively true. Setting it to false preserves existing Microsoft AI Max settings.
These option names, documented defaults and effects are described in Microsoft’s GoogleImportOption Data Object reference. The documented interface path is Import from Google Ads > Choose import options > Targeting > AI Max settings. The reference is for the v13 Campaign Management service, so inspect the controls available in your own account rather than assuming every account or import workflow presents identical options.
Check the import before its next run
- Find the Google Import job. Identify the import you intend to run or keep. Microsoft’s Google Ads Import guide says imports can run immediately or on a recurring schedule.
- Determine when it runs. Confirm whether you are preparing a one-time import or a scheduled one, and identify the next scheduled run if there is one. An existing schedule does not prove the intended AI Max settings have transferred successfully.
- Open the available import options. If the controls are exposed in your workflow, go to Targeting > AI Max settings. Review both the option for settings not previously imported and the option for updates to existing settings.
- Choose what should happen to existing Microsoft settings. If you want Google Import to apply updates to existing Microsoft AI Max settings, leave the update option enabled. If you want to preserve those existing AI Max settings, set UpdateAIMaxSettings to false before the import runs.
Microsoft documents the false setting’s effect on existing Microsoft AI Max settings specifically. It is not documented as preventing every other campaign update made by an import.
Hypothetical: Microsoft settings were edited directly
Imagine an advertiser has a recurring Google Import and has adjusted AI Max settings directly in Microsoft Advertising. Before the next sync, the advertiser should inspect UpdateAIMaxSettings. The documented default permits AI Max updates; setting the option to false preserves existing Microsoft AI Max settings.
After the run, compare the intended Microsoft campaign’s AI Max settings with the selected option. If the update option was false, the expected outcome for existing Microsoft AI Max settings is that they remain preserved. This is an illustration of the documented option, not a report of a test or an observed account result.
Verify the import after it runs
- Check the corresponding Microsoft campaign and inspect its AI Max settings.
- Compare what you see with the choices made for new settings and updates to existing settings.
- Check the import’s status and errors, then review the affected campaigns. Microsoft’s import guide recommends checking results and reviewing campaigns because not all information is imported.
The guide’s detailed instructions for retrieving results and error logs use API operations; they are not a verified step-by-step Microsoft Advertising interface workflow for import history. Use the result-review method available to you, and do not treat a scheduled job alone as proof that the intended settings transferred.
Before your next Google Import, do you want it to update existing Microsoft AI Max settings or preserve them?
